Duracotton SUB How To Transfer and Sublimate Cotton Using an Dye Sub Ink Jet Printer
Heat Press to 100% Cotton, 50-50 or 75-25 Polycotton blends, 100% Polyester
The following instructions are for Ink Jet Printers using dye sublimation inks.
Dye Sublimation printers still use inkjet sublimation release paper. Remember to pre-heat the shirt first to remove moisture. 5 seconds is sufficient.
In order to imprint onto 100% Cotton and polycotton blends it is necessary to apply a polyester coating to the article before applying the regular transfer that you print from your ink jet printer. This is done by:
- Positioning an UNprinted sheet of DuraCotton SUB with sunny side face down on the shirt. It does tend to curl when it goes on the platen so be sure to hold it in place while covering with a Teflon sheet.
- Press for 7 - 10 sec at 385 degrees F. HEAVY pressure
- Peel COOL or COLD. Take your printed inkjet sublimation transfer and lay it face down on top of the polymer area of the shirt.
- Heat press to the Duracotton SUB polymer on the shirt. Press time 60 secs. (time will vary with your sublimation paper). Temperature 400 degrees F. HEAVY pressure.
- HOT PEEL. The polymer is invisible.
- If using a light coloured t-shirt other than white, you should trim the Duracotton SUB transfer paper and the dye sub transfer to the same shape as close as possible to the image being transfered.
Use a Teflon sheet to cover transfer when pressing.
It is highly recommended that the article be pressed with Teflon for an additional two seconds after removal of the transfer. Quick peel. The Teflon pumps the colour into the fibre, resulting in really fantastic colours and increased wash durability. It leaves ZERO hand and further enhances the invisibility of the polymer resin.
I have found the results work best with a High Release paper. This can be ordered directly from Periscope Promotions.
